Iberdrola Renewable has received licence from the Romanian grid operator Transelectrica to connect wind power totalling 1,500MW to the national electricity grid.
With the licence the company aims to roll out its Dobruja Project involving the start-up of 50 wind farms in the Dobruja region of southeastern Romania.
The firm will construct and operate the wind farms, while Eolica Dobrogea will develop the projects and will be responsible for planning and obtaining construction permits.
Iberdrola plans to build the wind farms that are expected to cut CO2 emissions by 2.6 million tons between 2011 and 2017.
