The plant, near Plymouth, will supply one million homes and businesses with electricity.
The plant has been supplying power to the grid during commissioning since the end of 2009, according to National Grid data.
The unit took three years to build and brings Centrica’s total number of gas-fired power stations in Britain to seven.
