Vattenfall has begun work on the Ormonde Wind Farm in the Irish Sea.
The 150MW wind power project, located off Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, will be the firm’s third wind farm in the UK.
The plant, which will use 30 RePower 5MW wind turbines, requires innovative steel platform from Burntisland Fabrications and BiFab steel jackets.
Harland & Wolff will be responsible for logistic and assembly services, and control and maintenance operations will be based in Barrow port.
Vattenfall Wind Power head Anders Dahl said the construction work was due for completion during 2011 and first power was expected to be generated later that year.
