France said it will announce tenders for offshore wind farm projects on ten sites in the country in September 2010.

French Government spokesperson Luc Chatel was quoted by Bloomberg as saying that the orders will be for about 3,000MW of offshore wind power projects, to be selected in 2011.

With a target of generating 6,000MW of power from offshore wind-farms in ten years, the nation is moving to increase power generation from cleaner renewable energy sources.

By the end of 2009, France had a 4,492MW installed wind capacity compared with 25,777MW in Germany, according to the European Wind Energy Association.
