E.ON UK has unveiled its first wave power generator in the UK.

The Vagr Atferd has a 750kW generation capacity and is designed by Pelamis to be installed and tested at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney.

Vagr Atferd is 180m long and weighs about 1,500t.

The Pelamis installation will be the first time the P2 has been tested anywhere in the world and represents the UK’s first commercial supply contract within the marine energy sector.

Green group the Carbon Trust has provided Pelamis funding from the Marine Renewables Proving Fund to develop and test the P2 device.

E.ON will be testing the device to bring it closer to commercial deployment.
