Scottish and Southern Energy has installed the first wind turbines at the 500MW Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm in Suffolk in the UK.
The wind turbines have been built on foundations recently installed at the wind farm site, about 25km off the Suffolk coast.
Of a total of 140 turbine foundations, 69 are in place and the rest will be built over the next few months before the wind turbines are added.
Siemens is supplying the 3.6MW wind turbines, which will be installed by Fluor.
The wind farm is expected to be complete and operational in 2012.
