A £70m waste-to-energy facility, proposed to be Scotland’s largest anaerobic waste digestion (AD) facility has been given the green light by local government authorities.

Banks Developments along with Scotwaste is developing the PondGreenEnergyPark, which received planning permission from West Lothian Council.

The AD plant will handle about 105,000 tons of waste per year.

A planned expansion of the existing Scotwaste recycling operations will also mean a further 95,000 tons of waste will be processed a year.

Work on the plant will begin during 2011 and the facility will become operational in 2012.
