ATCO Power has opened an ‘environmentally friendly’ gas-fired power generating station in Western Australia.

The 86MW Karratha power generation facility will supply power to the region under a 20-year contract with Horizon Power.

Karratha is ATCO’s third generating station in Australia, which also operates the Osborne power station and the Bulwer Island cogeneration plant.

ATCO said the plant uses 35% less natural gas to produce each kilowatt of electricity compared to existing generation in the region.
