US-based Tampa Electric’s Big Bend Power Station, Florida, has completed an environmental upgrade following the installation of new equipment.

The firm has installed selective catalytic reduction (SCR) equipment on the Unit 1, which is the last of the station units to be fitted with the technology.

The SCR is expected to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions at the plant.

The project is part of a ten-year, $1.2bn programme by the firm based on an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to reduce overall emissions from its power plants.
