Siemens Energy has been awarded contracts by Progress Energy to supply gas turbine-generator packages for two combined cycle power plants in the US.

Siemens will supply the 950MW-rated Lee plant in North Carolina with three SGT6-PAC 5000F gas turbine packages.

Each package comprises a 206MW gas turbine, an air-cooled generator and a SPPA-T3000 plant control system.

The turbine includes a dual fuel, ultra low NOx combustion system, extended outage interval parts and low carbon monoxide turndown.

The 600MW Sutton plant, also in North Carolina, will receive two SGT6-PAC 5000F gas turbine packages consisting of the same components.

The gas-fuelled power plants will replace old coal-fired generators reducing CO2 emissions by 60%, mercury emissions by 100%, SO2 emissions by about 100% and NO2 emissions by over 95%.
