Dong Energy has been awarded a contract to build the Anholt wind farm off the coast of Denmark in the Kattegat.

The 400MW wind farm commissioned by the Danish Energy Agency will be built with a total investment of DKK10bn ($1.6bn) and provide power for over 400,000 households.

Siemens will manufacture, install and commission 111 turbines with a generation capacity of 3.6MW each for Dong Energy, as well as providing maintenance services for five years.

The wind farm must supply its first power by the end of 2012 and the farm must be commissioned by the end of 2013 to meet the terms of the deal.
