Indian state utility Uttar Pradesh Power is seeking bids for power plants to use both solar energy and conventional fuel to generate electricity.

Uttar Pradesh Power Proposals chief engineer of the tender R.K. Johar told Bloomberg that the plants would use solar along with coal, natural gas or biomass fuel to promote renewable energy.

“Each plant must generate a minimum of 250MW,” Johar said.

The country’s power generation capacity was 161,352MW as of 31 May 2010, according to the Central Electricity Authority.
