A new initiative to increase energy efficiency in domestic use as been launched by the British Government.

The most energy inefficient homes in the UK could save on average about £550 per year by installing insulation measures, according to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne has also urged energy suppliers to focus more on insulating lofts and walls to ensure energy bill savings for low income households.

The UK has extended the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT), under the new coalition government. Under the new rules, 68% of work done by energy suppliers will have to be met through professionally installed loft, cavity and solid wall insulation.
