Chinese firm Three Gorges has announced plans to invest $10bn in two hydro power projects in Pakistan.

The Chinese firm will build a dam capable of generating 7,000MW of electricity in Bunji Gilgit Baltistan of Pakistan, and one in the Kohala area, which will generate up to 1,200MW of electricity.

The feasibility study for the $2.6bn Kohala Hydel Project has been completed and it will be constructed in four years.

A feasibility study of the Bunji Dam Project has begun and the dam will be built at a cost of $8bn, according to tribune.com.pk.

Pakistan seeks to improve its power shortage by adding additional power to the national grid in the next 25 years from hydro, coal, gas, nuclear and renewable energy sources.
