Egypt says it will invite bids for the construction of a 1,000MW wind energy park in Gabal El-Zeit area in the Gulf of Suez, Egypt.

The contract for the wind energy park will be tendered on a build-own-operate basis in September.

The North African country generates 14% of its power needs from renewable sources, an amount it plans to raise to 20% by 2020. It expects that 12% of this power will be created using wind.

Egypt currently generates 500MW of power through wind projects in the Zaafarana area in the Gulf of Suez, according to bloomberg.
