The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is unlikely to be able to reach the target of sourcing 20% of its electricity from local renewable energy sources during the Games, it has been revealed.
London 2012 is aiming to reduce overall energy consumption during the staging of the Games with boilers, which burn waste wood, and 50,000m² of solar panels to be installed around the Olympic Park.
Organisers also plan to install a small-scale combined heat and power biomass plant, which will be handed onto the legacy company after 2012.

of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) David Stubbs, told the Assembly’s Environment Committee it was doing as much as it could towards meeting its target during the staging of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
But the loss of a wind turbine scheme and a lack of other renewable energy projects in London mean it is unlikely to meet the target during the Games.
