Siemens has expanded its smart grid solutions portfolio by acquiring Quick Stab, a software package to prevent blackouts in power supply grids, from SCS Info Tech.
Quick Stab is used for permanent monitoring, warning the control centre in case of imminent power failure due to changes in grid utilisation and flow of power within the grid, and to enhance grid stability.
Siemen’s Spectrum Power grid control system integrates the Quick Stab software to determine any time how far the power supply grid is from a state of voltage instability or disconnection of power plant generators from the grid.
Siemens Energy Power Distribution Division CEO Ralf Christian said the company decided to acquire the software instead of continuing to integrate it into their system as a third-party product as a result of their positive experience with Quick Stab.
The new component of the smart grid portfolio allows Siemens to offer utilities a complete package of real-time and off-line grid analysis and stability applications.
The firm will also be responsible for worldwide sales and further development of the software.
