The US Department of Energy has given a $117m loan guarantee to Kahuku Wind Power project.

The project will generate 30MW of wind power and supply electricity to about 7,700 households on the Hawaiian island annually.

The Kahuku wind power plant uses 12 2.5MW wind turbine generators and a 10MW battery energy storage system (BESS).

The funding is part of clean energy funding through the US Recovery Act and will help reduce dependency on imported oil.
