E.ON’s wave energy convertor, Vagr Atferd, has reached the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, Scotland, for testing and development.
Vagr Atferd, 180m long and weighing about 1,300t, is capable of generating 750KW and will help marine energy make the transition from development to commercial deployment.
E.ON Marine Development Manager Amaan Lafayette said that the period of testing will determine what is needed to ensure that marine energy makes the transition from development to commercial deployment.
The testing programme will increase in intensity every 12 months to examine the viability of the P2 wave energy convertor, which has been designed and developed by Pelamis Wave Power.
Vagr Atferd’s deployment at EMEC is part of E.ON’s first significant investment in wave power.
