Abengoa Solar and E.ON have completed over 50% of their first concentrated solar plant (CSP) near Seville in Spain.
The 100MW plant comprises Helioenergy 1 and 2 plants, each with a generation capacity of 50MW using parabolic trough technology.
The first plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2011 and the second in early 2012.
The two plants will generate enough solar energy to eliminate emissions amounting to 63,000t of CO2.
The partners have recently completed financing for the projects, procured from 12 financial entities.
