Russia will supply more low-enriched uranium to South Africa’s Koeberg nuclear power plant under a new contract extending an agreement from the 1990s.

Russia’s state uranium trader Techsnabexport will supply uranium enrichment services to firms including Westinghouse Electric for delivery to the Koeberg plant.

Rosatom head Sergei Kiriyenko told Reuters that its share of the market in South Africa will rise with the deal.

Deliveries are expected to begin in 2011 and last through to 2017-2018.

Koeberg, Africa’s only nuclear power station situated in Cape Town, is run by state power utility Eskom.
