US power demand is projected to rise to 4% in 2010, according to the Energy Information Administration’s new Short-Term Energy Outlook.

The outlook predicts a rise in demand from 3.6% a month ago to 4% for 2010 owing to higher temperatures, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The agency, however, cut its power consumption estimates for 2011 to an increase of 0.4% from a forecast increase of 1.1% a month ago.

The lower growth rate is attributable to summer temperatures returning to more normal levels in 2011.
