Tokuyama Corporation will build a new facility to manufacture polycrystalline silicon for solar cells in Sarawak, Malaysia.

With an investment of 65bn yen ($762m) on the development of the manufacturing unit, it will have an annual production capacity of 6,000t.

The silicon manufacturing unit will include utilities facilities such as electric power receiving facilities and hydrogen generators, and infrastructure facilities along with roads and wastewater-treatment equipment.

The firm expects infrastructure facilities and utilities facilities to cost about 15bn yen ($175m).

Tokuyama Malaysia, a Tokuyama subsidiary, will acquire property, plant and equipment for the project.
