China plans to add another 100GW of hydroelectric power capacity across the country over the next ten years.
China’s National Energy Administration head Zhang Guobao told Sina Finance that the country will invest about RNY1 trillion ($146bn) over the next five years under an accelerated period of building dams.
Currently, China has reached 200GW of capacity in hydropower, according to Guobao.
China aims to raise the proportion of non-fossil fuels in its total primary energy mix to 15% by 2020, with hydropower generating at 9%.
