Infrastructure development company Cavico, and its subsidiary Cavico Bridge and Tunnel, has successfully broken through a sub-tunnel at the A Luoi Hydropower project in the Thua Thien Hue province of Vietnam.
Cavico has excavated about 6,400ft of tunnel from sub-tunnel No. 1 to sub-tunnel No. 2.
The 170MW hydropower plant, owned by the Central Hydropower, is built on the A Sap River in Thua Thien Hue, and will produce about 686 million kWh of power annually for the region.
In July 2007, Cavico won a $53m contract to excavate a headrace tunnel and excavate four sub-tunnels, a surge tank, a vertical shaft and a service access road for the project.
