SinoHydro will build three dams on the Patuca river in Honduras to generate up to 524MW of power under an agreement with the Honduran Government.
Work on the project, which will include the country’s longest and most voluminous dams, will begin next year according to the Economic Times.
Sinohydro is expected to finance the project with loans from Chinese financial institutions.
At present, the country produces up to 1,400MW, about 60% of which comes from thermoelectric sources, according to the state-owned ENEE electric utility.
