Bahrain has begun a pilot project to install solar powered streetlights around the country.
Oil and Gas Affairs Minister and National Oil and Gas Authority chairman Abdulhussain Mirza told Trade Arabia that solar-powered streetlights, which are not connected to the traditional power grid, are already being fitted.
The experiment with solar energy could be expanded to include Awali, petrol stations and some installations at Bapco, according to Mirza.
“The lights work throughout the year on full independence from the electricity grid and will not be affected by any power interruptions,” Mirza said.
