CEZ AS, the Czech Republic’s largest utility, has cancelled a tender to build a 430MW gas-fired power plant in Skawina, Poland.

CEZ spokeswoman Eva Novakova has stated the restrictions on the Polish energy market company as a reason behind the cancellation.

A technology supplier cannot be selected for building a power plant until the Polish market is fully competitive, she said.

“CEZ is aware of the need for new energy capacities in Poland and won’t abandon the long-term plan to build a new unit in Skawina,” a spokesperson from CEZ said.

The Prague-based utility has been buying plants, distribution networks and mines in central and eastern Europe until early 2010, according to Bloomberg.
