The US Bureau of Land Management has issued a Record of Decision for the construction of the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System located in San Bernardino County, California, US.
The 392MW system, which will spread across 14,000 million square feet, received the federal permits on 22 September 2010 and is capable of providing power to 140,000 homes.
The project will employ an air-cooling system to convert steam into water in a closed-loop cycle using 95% less water than competing solar thermal technologies.
BrightSource and Bechtel will be the engineering and construction contractors for the Ivanpah project.
