GE’s Jenbacher has unveiled a new power-generation gas engine, the J920 engine in Austria.
With electrical efficiency of 48.7% and an output of 9.5MW, the new J920 is the most efficient in its class, the company claims.
The J920 gas engine provides enough energy for 18,500 average European households.
One J920 can prevent about 1,500t of CO2 emissions annually and achieve fuel savings of over €217,000 ($301,000) due to lower gas consumption.
The J920 is suited for decentralised, independent power supply in remote, hot or high-altitude regions for use in combined heat and power applications and the stabilisation of power grids.
The prototype of the engine has been undergoing successful testing on a purpose-built test bench at GE’s Jenbacher manufacturing facilities in Austria.
In the next phase, the new engine will be put into operation for the first time followed by serial production for service in 2012.
