Swiss power and automation group ABB has secured a contract from State Grid of China (SGCC) to supply high-voltage products for its 220kV smart substation demonstration project.
The project is aimed at deploying and integrating intelligent solutions to improve the efficiency and reliability of the electricity network.
Under the contract, ABB will provide its high-voltage disconnecting circuit breaker (DCB), which will integrate the function of a disconnector within the circuit breaker.
ABB said the DCB will save considerable space, reduce network loss, enhance safety and improve system availability and also help to optimise operation, as well as maintenance costs and lower environmental impact.
ABB power products division high voltage business head Giandomenico Rivetti said the demonstration project contributes to China’s vision of a smarter grid that is more intelligent, efficient and reliable.
"We have worked closely with SGCC on many global innovations over the years and are pleased to continue this tradition," Rivetti said.
SGCC is responsible for the construction and operation of a power network that covers 26 states, autonomous regions and municipalities across a Chinese service area, which represents 88% of the national territory.
Earlier in 2013, ABB secured an order worth around $150m to supply power components to the world’s highest capacity power link in China.
