ABB has received a contract from the Ministry of Electricity in Iraq to supply a distribution management system to availability, performance and reliability of power supplies in the capital, Baghdad.
The firm will upgrade the existing control centre with a solution comprising its Network Manager SCADA data management system and supply communications equipment and remote terminal units to control and monitor power supplies in the city.
ABB Power Systems division Network Management business unit head Jens Birgersson said the upgrade will help improve availability and quality of electricity for consumers and support economic development in the region.
"Our unique ability to facilitate the integration of operational and information technologies provides a multicomponent system from a single source, reducing both cost and complexity for our customers," noted Birgersson.
ABB said the refurbished control centre will provide operators with a system-wide view of conditions in the distribution grid, thereby enabling smooth operations and rapid detection and correction of faults.
