Acciona Windpower has won a 195MW turbine delivery contract for a wind power complex in the state of Piauí, north-east Brazil.
The contract has been awarded to the subsidiary of Spanish Acciona Group by the developers for the project, Atlantic Energias Renováveis and Actis.
The renewable energy generating complex will house eight wind facilities: Lagoa do Barro I-VII and Queimada Nova.
Under the terms of the contract, Acciona will deliver 65 of its AW125/3000 turbines for the complex, all of which will be mounted on top of 120m high concrete towers.
Delivery for the wind power equipment is expected to start from 2017, following which the project commissioning has been scheduled in second semester of 2018.
The Spanish firm will also be responsible for operation and maintenance of the wind turbines following its installation at the site for a period of 15 years.
The chief machine sections will be manufactured in Brazil and the blades for the turbines will be bought locally as well. Acciona will carry on the nacelle and tower assembly in Bahia, it said.
Acciona Windpower Brasil director Christiano Forman said: "We are very pleased with this new agreement with Atlantic, which highlights the confidence of major players in the Brazilian wind power sector in our turbine, and the suitability of our product to give the best response to the needs of wind power developers."
The new contract increases Acciona’s portfolio for Brazilian orders of the AW3000 wind turbines, raising it over the 1GW mark.
