Alstom has secured a €830m contract as part of a consortium that will build a coal-fired power plant in Tanjung Bin, Malaysia.
The total value of the consortium’s contract, which includes Mudajaya and Shin Eversendai, is over €1bn.
The company will provide all key power generation equipment and will be in charge of the overall engineering, project management and commissioning.
Alstom will construct and commission the 1,000MW supercritical steam turbine and generator and install a supercritical boiler, power plant auxiliaries such as mills and air-preheaters, as well as proprietary environmental control systems.
Emissions at the plant will be decreased through the use of low NOx burners, a seawater flue gas desulphurisation facility and fabric filters to reduce nitrous oxide, sulphur oxide and dust emissions.
Alstom will also supply and install its latest ALSPA Series 6 distributed control system.
The power plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2016.
The Tanjung Bin power plant is the French energy company’s second contract for a supercritical coal-fired unit in Malaysia, following the order to build the Manjung power plant in March 2011, which is scheduled to come online in 2015.
