Alstom Power has won a contract from EDF Polska to reduce NOx emissions at the EDF Wybrzeze coal-fired power plant based in Gdansk, Poland.
According to the contract, Alstom will be responsible for engineering, procurement, delivery, erection and commissioning of the Low NOx solution at four EDF Wybrzexe boilers.
To be implemented by the Polish Thermal Services organisation in collaboration with Alstom Thermal Services’ technical product line, the project, which is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2015, will help the plant meet European Union requirements listed in the Industrial Emissions Directive.
The plant will be able to reduce NOx emissions to less than 200mg/Nm3 from the current 500-550mg/Nm3 through the application of primary (modernised combustions systems) and secondary (application of urea injection technologies) methods.
The contract is a part of an EDF Group programme to improve the air quality and modernise existing production assets to ensure energy security for the Tricity (Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot) in Poland.
For more than two decades, Alstom has designed and developed a family of low-NOx tangential and wall-fired combustion systems to significantly abate emissions, such as nitrogen oxides. The company’s selective catalytic reduction system offers NOx reduction of up to 90%.
