Substation India

Alstom T&D India has won three contracts valued at INR1.687bn (€21m) from West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (WBSETCL) to supply gas-insulated substation (GIS) and air-insulated substation (AIS) packages.

Under the first two contracts worth around INR665.6m (€8.3m) and INR338.7m (€4.3m) respectively, the company will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 220/132kV GIS package for the Vidyasagar lndustrial Park at Kharagpur and 220kV GIS package for Dharampur.

The Vidyasagar park substation is being built to feed various upcoming units in the adjacent park of the Midnapore district, while the Dharampur substation will connect existing substations at Jeerut and Aramabagh as part of an extra high voltage network development in the North 24 Parganas district.

The 220/132kV and 220kV GIS substations will help strengthen the state’s transmission network at 220kV level, Alstom claims.

The third contract, worth approximately INR683m (€8.5m) will see Alstom supply a 400kV AIS substation and a 220kV transformer bay at Gokarna, and a 220kV substation and feeder bays at Krishnanagar.

Once built, the 400kV AIS substation will be used to transmit power from the 2×500 MW Sagardighi Power plant (Phase II) via the 400kV substation of Power Grid. Alstom’s factories across India will deliver all products for these three contracts.

Alstom T&D India managing director Rathin Basu said "It has played an important role in building the transmission network in West Bengal. With these orders, Alstom T&D India has secured leadership position with more than 50% market share in eastern India for GIS and AIS substations."

Earlier, WBSETCL had solicited bids for the design, engineering, civil construction, delivery, erection, testing and commissioning of the new Vidyasagar park substation and construction of AIS feeder and transformer bays at different substations and their associated works as defined on turn-key basis.
