French company Areva has won two service contracts for nuclear facilities, one in the UK and the other in the US.
The first contract is for three years. It will see the company carry out outage and maintenance activities across five nuclear power plants in the US.
Starting from 2016, the energy company will be responsible for providing integrated outage services at two boiling water and six pressurised water reactors in the country.
The deal also includes inspection and maintenance services for the reactor vessel and vessel internals as well as for steam generators and reactor coolant pump motor refurbishments.
Areva Reactors & Services Business Group senior executive vice-president Philippe Samama said: "This new agreement is testimony to AREVA’s expertise in providing services for all types of nuclear reactors, even when it is not the original equipment manufacturer."
The UK-based Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has awarded the second contract to Areva to deliver engineering services for 12 sites in the country.
The sites, under the framework contract with the NDA Shared Service Alliance, include a nuclear site at Dounreay in Northern Scotland, Radioactive Waste Management’s site in Harwell, Low-Level Waste Repository in West Cumbria along with others which are managed by Magnox.
Under the first segment of the contract, the company will deliver engineering and design services for decommissioning projects, in co-ordination with its UK partner Atkins.
As part of the second segment of the deal, the firm’s engineering consulting subsidiary in thr UK, AREVA RMC, will be integrating studies for waste management from nuclear site decommissioning.
AREVA Back End Business Group senior executive vice-president Guillaume Dureau said: "This agreement confirms our engagement to contribute to future decommissioning projects for nuclear sites other than Sellafield, where our company is already active.
"With this new agreement, AREVA, a historic partner with the British nuclear industry, continues to expand its engineering activities in the United Kingdom."
