India’s state-owned company Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has won a $24m contract to establish a coal-based thermal unit in the state of Orissa through the international competitive bidding (ICB) process.
As part of the EPC contract, the 250MW plant will be established at Rourkela Power Project in Orissa.

Joint venture NTPC-SAIL Power Company (NSPCL) placed the order with BHEL for Stage-III of the brownfield power project, which is located in the Rourkela district of Odisha.
BHEL will provide support to the design, supply, construction, manufacture, engineering, testing, erection, and commissioning of the plant.
Its manufacturing plants in Bengaluru, Bhopal, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Ranipet, Thirumayam and Trichy will be responsible for producing the major equipment.
The company’s power sector division will assume the responsibility to conduct the civil works and implement and commission the equipment.
