Power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has won a 120MW order for Rammam Stage-III Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in West Bengal, a state in India.

The contract, which is worth Rs2,250m ($36m), was awarded to BHEL by the state-controlled National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in India through an international competitive bidding (ICB) process.

Under the terms of the contract, BHEL will be responsible for constructing 40MW hydro-generating sets and associated electro-mechanical equipment for the facility.

The resource, located in Darjeeling district of the Indian state, is a run of the river scheme on the river Rammam.

"Under the terms of the contract, BHEL will be responsible for constructing 40MW hydro-generating sets and associated electro-mechanical equipment for the facility."

Along with three hydro-generating sets, the plant will house Pelton turbines and matching hydro generators as well.

The Indian power firm will carry out engineering, procurement, manufacturing, erection, and commissioning of the sets with the connected electro-mechanical works of the hydro-generating sets at the site.

BHEL is expected to complete the project within 45 months.

The hydro-generating sets will be developed by the power company at its Bhopal unit, while its Jhansi facility will supply the transformers for the project.

The control and monitoring system for the Rammam Stage-III HEP will be developed by BHEL’s electronics division in Bangalore.

BHEL’s power sector for the eastern region will be responsible for erection and commissioning of the deliveries.

Up until now, BHEL has delivered hydro-generating sets for multiple projects in the country, with a combined capacity of 18,842MW operational.
