South African power producer BioTherm Energy has been awarded three renewable projects totalling 251MW in the country.
The deals have been secured by the firm under the fourth round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP). The successful bids were announced by the South African Department of Energy (DOE).
The three projects that are being considered include 120MW Golden Valley wind power plant, along with the 45MW Aggeneys Solar PV, and 86MW Konkoonsies II Solar PV facilities.
BioTherm Energy CEO Jasandra Nyker said: "This 251MW allocation by the DOE reflects our ability to compete directly with leading international players who have come to dominate the South African landscape.
"We appreciate the DOE’s commitment to supporting a South African development and investment platform in this round."
The utility firm had secured 49MW of wind and solar projects in the first round of the REIPPP, which have been set up and is operational currently.
BioTherm Energy is supported by private equity firm Denham Capital.
Denham Capital managing partner and co-president Mackin said: "We strongly believe building low-cost power solutions in countries with a fundamental need for new power generation fuels economic growth."
As well as South Africa, BioTherm has secured renewable projects for Zambia and Burkina Faso.
