Canadian Solar and Strata Solar have finished construction of two utility-scale solar power projects in North Carolina, US.

Both companies expect to complete the third solar project by the middle of this month.

The projects, named Lenoir 1, Lenoir 2 and Wilson 1, have a combined capacity of 18MW and are part of a 15-project portfolio totalling 85MW.

Lenoir 1 and 2 and Wilson 1 will feature 40,608 Canadian Solar CS6P-P 245 and 19,896 CS6P-P 250 Watt solar modules.

Once connected to the grid, the projects are anticipated to generate enough renewable energy to power 2,500 homes and offset 13,250mt of CO2 per year.

The first joint solar power plant commissioned by both the firms was the 6.4MW Fuquay Farm in Middle Creek, Willow Springs in Wake County, North Carolina.

The ground-breaking of the project was held in November 2012, while the facility was connected to the grid in March 2013.

Canadian Solar chairman and chief executive officer Shawn Qu said the company looks forward to working with Strata Solar on the rest of its portfolio of projects in North Carolina.

Strata Solar chief executive officer Markus Wilhelm said: "The Lenoir farms and the first of two Wilson projects complete the next chapter in our journey through the Strata and Canadian Solar portfolio."

Earlier in July 2013, Argand Energy Solutions selected Canadian Solar to construct a 2.3MW solar power project in Louisburg, North Carolina.
