EDF Energies Nouvelles’ enXco Service Canada has partnered with Cartier Wind Energy to provide remote monitoring services for the 109.5MW Baie-des-Sables Wind Farm in Quebec.
Commissioned in November 2006, the project consists of 73 GE 1.5-MW SLE wind turbines and generates enough clean energy for about 21,000 homes.
Cartier Wind Energy will utilize enXco’s Operations Control Center (OCC) will allow the company to have permanent monitoring of the Baie-des-Sables site and perform remote resets or dispatch its wind technicians as required.
enXco Service Canada O&M business development manager Timothy Fratta said the company will leverage its NERC-compliant OCC to serve Cartier’s needs in Gaspesie.
"Effective remote monitoring represents a valuable tool for wind farm owners, ensuring that resets are performed safely and contributing to lower down time," Fratta added.
In February 2005, Cartier Wind and Hydro-Quebec Distribution signed long-term electrical power purchase agreements for a total of 739.5MW for wind energy projects in the Gaspesie, Iles-de-la-Madeleine and the Regional County Municipality of Matane.
Three of these wind parks, with a total of 319.5MW energy generation, are currently operating in Baie-des-Sables, Carleton, and L’Anse-a-Valleau.
Last month, enXco acquired the Bobcat Bluff Wind Project located in Archer County, Texas, where it plans to deploy up to 150 MW of GE 1.5 SLE turbines, similar to the Baie-des-Sables Wind Farm.
The company is planning to start the construction work on the farm this spring and the project is to go live by December 2012.
