Gamesa Technology and Harvest the Wind Network (HTWN) have unveiled plans to jointly develop a community wind project in New York, US.

The project will be delivered for US-based manufacturer Harbec Plastics, which intends to make its manufacturing facility carbon neutral by 2013.

HTWN’s regional partner, Sustainable Energy Developments (SED) has designed the project and will install Gamesa’s G58 turbine on a 55m tower at Harbec’s manufacturing facility, located at Wayne Industrial Sustainability Park in Ontario, New York.

The turbine will supply electricity directly to the manufacturing plant, which also receives power from an existing combined heat and power plant at the site.

Gamesa North America vice president of marketing, David Rosenberg, said: "Gamesa’s portfolio of projects and vast development experience make a perfect match to support commercial and industrial customers that want to take advantage of wind power in their communities."

The turbine installation will begin in September 2012 and completion is scheduled by the end of the year.
