GE has secured an order for a single shaft engineered equipment package (EEP) with a 7HA.02 gas turbine to power Ares EIF's natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Located in Birdsboro, the project was developed by EmberClear and is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2019. The facility is designed to generate up to 488MW using a combustion turbine and heat recovery steam generators.
Under the order, GE will deliver 7HA.02 gas and D650 steam turbines, a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), plant controls, and additional equipment.
Ares EIF's partner Mark Voccola said: “We are pleased to bring this new plant online, which will help continue the shift to cleaner, more cost-effective power in the PJM region.
“The abundance of low-cost natural gas in Pennsylvania means GE’s large, high-efficiency 7HA.02 technology is a great fit, supporting the region’s increased use of natural gas for power generation.”
GE has also arranged senior secured credit facilities with CIT Bank and Investec to support construction and operations of the plant. The gas turbine will be manufactured in South Carolina, while the steam turbine will be produced in Schenectady, New York. Both will operate in single-shaft combined-cycle configurations.
