GE will supply eight 2.75WM wind turbines to develop a 22MW power facility in Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon in Mexico.
The contract will be carried out by Comexhidro, the Mexican project operator.
Financing for the project has been secured from Conduit Capital Partners, an investment firm focused on private equity investment opportunities.
The project will generate clean energy for public lighting in Santa Catarina and is expected to offset greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the amount produced by 10,000 cars a year.
Comexhidro general manager Carlos Jinich said: "Through the perfect combination of GE’s technology and innovative solutions, combined with our local knowledge and experience of the grid, we will be able to offer important environmental benefits and a technological solution to meet the needs of the community for an efficient and sustainable energy supply."
Héctor Villegas, GE sales director for renewable energy business in Mexico, said that the project was a breakthrough for the country.
"It supports the government’s commitment to increase investment in research and infrastructure and encourage private investors to produce clean energy and help reverse the effects of climate change," said Villegas.
