GE has secured a contract from New Generation Power Texas to supply turbines for a wind power project in Texas.
Under the contract, the company will supply 235 wind turbines and related services for the 400MW Texas Wind Project.
Construction on the project began December 2013 and will be built in two phases.
NGP executive vice-president Ania Kuna said, "The GE brand is one of the most highly regarded in the wind industry. We are pleased to announce our selection for GE to supply 235 turbines model GE 1.7-103 and related services for the 400MW Texas Wind Project.
"Evaluating project risk and performance upfront is critical. GE’s wealth of experience and sophisticated technology proves to have world-class efficiency and power output to ensure project success. GE is instrumental in building a better quality project that our clients will benefit from directly."
In order to determine the stability of the chosen wind turbines for the project, GE performed a mechanical loads analysis.
The collection of diagnostic data found that the GE 1.7-103 turbines were an ideal fit to produce optimum power output.
The three-bladed, upwind, horizontal-axis turbines with a rotor diamtere of 103m will power NGP’s Texas Wind power plant. The large rotor and advanced design with a hub height of 80m will help deliver optimum energy output.
GE’s wind products general manager Keith Longtin said, "Since 2002, GE is proud to have invested more than $2bn in research & development for renewable energy. We are thrilled to work with NGP Texas on 400MW Texas Wind Project and supply them with our advanced technology 1.7-103 wind turbine."
The 400MW Texas Wind Project is expected to be fully operational before the end of 2015 to qualify for PTC.
