GeoSea, a part of DEME, has won two separate contracts for offshore wind energy projects in the UK and Germany.
The contracts have been awarded for the Kentish Flats Extension offshore wind farm in the UK and for the Gode Wind offshore wind farms in Germany by Vattenfall and Dong Energy, respectively.
GeoSea has won the contract from Vattenfall for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of foundations and 15 wind turbines for the Kentish Flats Extension offshore wind farm.
Under the first contract, GeoSea will be responsible for the design, supply and installation of 15 wind turbine foundations and the turbines using its jack-up vessel at Kentish Flats Extension with work set to begin in spring 2015.
Vattenfall has organised an event to ensure the maximum use of local content in Kentish Flats Extension, while, in this regard GeoSea, which has participated in the event along with other players, will work with the local supply chain in Kent in the near future.
The Kentish Flats Extension project, which has been granted a consent in February 2013, will feature around ten to 17 wind turbines totalling up to 51MW capacity and associated transmission infrastructure.
To be constructed more than 7km off the North Kent coast in the UK, the extension covering around 8km2 will be capable of generating approximately 90,000MWh of clean electricity.
Under the contract with Dong Energy, GeoSea will install monopole foundations, transport foundations from the manufacturer to the base port Eemshaven for the Gode Wind offshore wind farms. Its sister company Tideway will be responsible for the erosion protection.
GeoSea will begin the installation work of 42 foundations at Gode Wind 2 in spring 2015, followed by 55 foundations at Gode Wind 1.
DONG Energy is developing the offshore wind farms, 330MW Gode Wind 1 and 252MW Gode Wind 2, in the German part of the North Sea with a total investment of around €2.2bn.
Together, the projects will feature 97 6MW Siemens wind turbines, which will be capable of generating enough electricity for annual electricity consumption of around 600,000 German households.
