Japan-based Hitachi has signed an agreement with power transmission firm Russian Grids to modernise and stabilise electric power distribution infrastructure.
As per the deal, both firms plan to cooperate in enhancing transmission and distribution networks in Russia with an initial focus on the Republic of Buryatia.
The project involves the study of substation equipment upgrades, improvements to the energy efficiency of substation buildings, and installations of grid stabilisation systems designed to support renewable energy.
The agreement will also see Hitachi conduct investigations to install equipment and other systems.
By September 2013, Hitachi is planning to use the agreement as the basis for proposing specific measures for the Republic of Buryatia, including a transportation facility located on the south-east side of Lake Baikal in southern Siberia.
The measures also include substation upgrades, installation of energy management systems, and grid stabilisation and battery systems.
In April 2012, Hitachi signed a technical cooperation agreement with the Federal Grid Company of Unified Energy System, which runs a power transmission business in Russia.
Hitachi said it has also been engaged in ongoing discussions on the use of advanced equipment and solution technologies, which can improve processes for the design, engineering, installation, and operation of the Russian Federation’s electric power transmission infrastructure.
