Iran plans to set up two 1,000MW nuclear power plants in the country in co-ordination with Russia by March 2016.
The nuclear plants are expected to involve an investment of $10bn.
Representative of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi was quoted by Iranian TV channel Press TV as saying: "A serious move is to start construction of these power plants during the current year."
Iran will need 13,000 technicians and engineers to set up the nuclear energy projects in the port city of Bushehr, Salehi.
The country also intends to set up multiple 100MW nuclear power projects to support potable water and electricity supply in the coastal strip of Makran, along the coast of the Sea of Oman.
Each of the planned 100MW facilities is expected to cost around $2bn.
The country had signed a deal with Russia in November last year to develop eight nuclear power units.
Russia has already boosted nuclear power generation capacity of Iran by setting up a 1000MW nuclear power station in Bushehr, the deal for which was signed between the two countries in 1995.
The power plant, which turned fully operational by August 2012, is presently operating under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
