A new initiative has been launched in the UK aiming to make the West Midlands the clean energy capital in the country.
Launched at an event hosted by the University of Birmingham, this initiative will welcome collaboration of major partners from the clean energy industry, academia, and public sector to offer various economic benefits across the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) region and encourage investment in smart energy technologies, research, and infrastructure.
The University of Birmingham's energy institute director Martin Freer said: “We are proud to be hosting this launch event, which marks the creation of a single voice for the West Midlands on energy.”
Energy Capital Steering Group's chair Matthew Rhodes said: “Building on the region’s excellent academic base, industrial heritage, and track record of government investment, the Energy Capital initiative will provide a powerful and exciting new mechanism to support economic growth, ensuring that citizens and businesses of all sizes benefit from global energy system transformation.”
Collaboration for the Energy Capital initiative is developed on a strong base of capability, expertise, and know-how of the programme partners.
